Genetic Signatures (ASX:GSS) reported fiscal first-quarter sales of AU$4 million, down from AU$5.4 million a year earlier, according to a Thursday filing with the Australian bourse.

Working under a restructured cost base, the company cut its operating expenses excluding the cost of materials by 30% year over year to AU$4 million in the fiscal first quarter, per the filing.

Genetic Signatures' net operating cash outflow fell to AU$1 million in the three months ended Sept. 30 from AU$3.4 million in the previous quarter and AU$2.1 million a year earlier, reflecting savings from the restructuring as well as other cash management initiatives.

However, the company warned that quarterly cash outflows are expected to vary in the coming months due to one-off product development costs and seasonal shifts in revenue.

Genetic Signatures ended the quarter with AU$20.9 million in cash and term deposits.
